Woolacombe and Mortehoe Residents Association

Below is an October 2012 message from the Woolacombe and Mortehoe Residents Association.
Thanks to Gerald Howell, WMRA secretary, for sending the text to was not affiliated with WMRA.

"After many years of involvement in Woolacombe and Mortehoe activities, our Residents’
Association is being discontinued. It had been recognised at the annual membership
meeting in March this year that there was a need to widen the membership, and to
encourage more existing members to volunteer for an active role in committee work.
Unfortunately, despite strenuous efforts by the committee, neither of these objectives
could be achieved and closure has become inevitable.

The Residents Association has had a long and chequered career and can count much to
its credit. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the dedicated people who have
served on our committee over the years. Should any of its founder members be reading
this, I hope they do not feel we have let them down in any way. Perhaps in years to
come, a new generation will feel the need to resurrect what they started.

An amount of money remained in the Association’s funds at the time of winding-up and,
in accordance with the provisions of our constitution, the trustees have distributed this
among various other organisations which serve the local community. These are:-
  • Woolacombe Village Hall
  • Mortehoe Heritage Trust
  • RNLI Lifeguards
  • Playdays Group
  • Warwick Link
  • Over 60s Luncheon Club
  • 1st Woolacombe Girl Guides
  • Woolacombe Brownies
It is hoped that these donations will help them continue their valuable work for the
population of our villages.

Brian Barthorpe
Retiring Chairman."
